Yuzhny Merchant Sea port
Address Port Yuzhny, 30 km east of Odessa, is one of Ukraines youngest ports. |

Its construction was started in 1973 on the western shore of Adjalyksky Liman (estuary) that lies on the northwestern coast of the Black Sea. The founding date of the new port was fixed as July 27, 1978 when the Latvian gas-carrier, BULDURI, berthed at Port Yuzhny pier. Port Yuzhny is the deepest port in Ukraine. It specializes in throughput handling of bulk, chemical, ore and general cargoes; and is used for transhipment of coal, metal, urea, building materials, ammonia, super phosphoric acid, methanol, and phosphorus. The port can handle up to 15 million tons of cargo per year. In 1999 the turnover was 11.851 million tons. Main shipping routes from the Port Yuzhny to the countries of the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea Basins; Latin America, the United States of America; the Middle East countries; Southeast Asian countries. Most of the transit cargoes (90%) come from Russia and neighbouring CIS countries ie Moldova, Kazakhstan, Belorussia. |

The total length of its berths is approx. 2.3 km; and there is 102,500 sq. m of open warehouse space in the port. The port comprises 2 cargo handling areas; and is adjacent to three railway stations that are on the Odessa Railway line, namely: Beregovaya, Chimicheskaya and Promyshlennaya Stations. These stations connect to the outer railway system through Chernomorskaya Station. The inner port motorways connect to the Odessa Nikolayev highway. Port berths are connected to the access railway lines and equipped with gantry cranes of rated load capacity up to 40 tons. Cargo handling operations may be performed 24 hours a day, Sundays and holidays included. |
